COROCAM: OVERHAUL AND MAINTENANCE OF HIGH VOLTAGE LINES

CASE:

Maintenance (insulation cleaning and retightening of bolts) is performed at the 130kV position of the substation. When restoring the service to the position, the crackling sound alerts of a defect not perceptible to the eye. Checked visually and with thermal camera (Fluke TI 125) but no cause detected.

ACTION:

It was decided to use a COROCAM 6HD corona camera to locate the defect. The Corocam measurements unequivocally identify the anomaly points, capturing values 10 times higher than that established as “fault” (61555 vr 800).

CONCLUSIONS:

Fault detection by traditional methods, visual inspection and thermographic camera, are insufficient to detect and identify problems generated in the insulation, conductors and positions in substations and transmission lines. Savings in downtime and cost are a clear advantage of this device.
